Player Interview Series: Viktor Rasovic
Updated: May 19
Following the interview with his brother, we have taken the time to sit down with one of Serbia's stars, Viktor. Check out some of the questions we asked him below:
1. When did you first realize that you could be a career waterpolo player and that you can turn your passion into your day job?
I first realised that I will be professional waterpolo player when I get my first call from national team when I was 14 years old. My parents sat me down and explained that if I work and train hard, I could turn my passion into a proper career!
2. Which challenges did you have to overcome to become the player you are today?
I have had to face lot of victories and lot of defeats. You can learn a lot more from defeats than you can from victories, I've found. When you win a match, often you don't pay as much attention to your mistakes, because, well you won! However, when you lose, you analize your mistakes in much more detail, the team is self-critical, that is why you come back stronger.
Of course I want to win all the time and I would always choose this but in sport it is impossible to always win, that is what makes it so captivating!
3. What motivates you the most about your profession as a waterpolo player?
Oh that one is easy - To became an Olympic champion one day. This is my biggest motivation every day.
4. What does your daily routine look like?
Usually I have 2 trainings per day. So definitely I need to sleep in the afternoon about 1 or 2 hours. In the evening I like to spent time with my team mates and watch some football game together or to watch something good on tv or just to talk on the phone with my family or friends. Basically, yes, it all revolves around sport!
5. What, in your opinion, is the biggest challenge a waterpolo player can achieve today?
I think biggest challenge is to fight for an Olympic medal. But with that said, you have to take in account everything leading up to the battle for the medal, all the trainings, all the wins and losses, teamwork and so on. The challenge is a singular one, but the journey there is huge.
6. Tell us about your most successful season in waterpolo!
Definitely with Red Star 2012-2014 when we won Champions league and Supercup and all trophies in Serbian championship. We won the full house!
7. Which other sports do you like to follow and do you have any other hobbies?
I follow football and basketball closely. I like to watch tennis Masters 1000 and Grand slams tournaments.
Serbia is a very competitive country when it comes to sports, naturally we like to watch a variety of sports!
As a hobby I love to collect panini stickers and fill our the albums! I have albums for almost every world championship in football!
Likewise, I like to use my free time for physical activity, and during the summer summer in my free time I play a lot of tennis and basketball with my friends.
